Falls City, Neb. (Sept. 19, 2011) The Falls City, Neb., City Council has voted to adopt the 2009 editions of the Uniform Plumbing Code® (UPC) and Uniform Mechanical Code® (UMC). Falls City is the county seat of Richardson County, which borders on the states of Kansas and Missouri in the southeast corner of Nebraska.

Developed by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) using an ANSI-accredited three-year consensus code development process, the UPC and UMC govern the installation and inspection of plumbing and mechanical systems as a means of promoting the public’s health, safety and welfare.

IAPMO Region 4 Manager Bill Schweitzer made presentations to the city’s plumbing board and city council, working closely with Gary Jones, chairman of the Falls City Plumbing Board, on the adoptions. Falls City previously used the International Plumbing Code and International Mechanical Code.

In addition, the city council amended a city ordinance stating that the International Residential Code governs only the building aspects of residential structures while the plumbing and mechanical systems will adhere to the UPC and UMC, respectively.
