IAPMO Senior Director of Environmental Education Steve Lehtonen appeared Sept. 17 as a guest on "Cajun Contractor" Michael King's nationally syndicated radio program, "Home Talk USA." Broadcast in 217 radio markets covering all 50 states, the program reaches 6.1 million listeners each week.
Lehtonen answered King's questions about the Green Plumbers program, the ways in which water and energy conservation go hand in hand and how consumers can benefit from a green plumber's unique perspective.
"Plumbers have really never been part of a conservation solution; a plumber usually responds to something broken and fixes or replaces it," Lehtonen said. "But now, Green Plumbers have taken 32 hours of specific course work that helps them to identify solutions for customers; solutions that will help them save water, energy and dollars.
"For the plumber, the ultimate deliverable, I think, is to be a competent adviser to the consumer on these different products and technologies."
Green Plumbers USA training and accreditation program seeks to train thousands of plumbers to promote the benefits of water conservation and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by changing consumer and plumbing behavior through the use of energy efficiency and water saving technologies.
