New Government Building Saving Water with VRTX

Chemical-Free Treatment Helps Building Go Green

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 31, 2011) – A recently completed office building constructed for the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation in Boulder City, Nevada is utilizing several water conservation technologies, including chemical-free cooling water treatment from VRTX Technologies.

The new home for the Lower Colorado Regional Office will house approximately 170 employees and was designed to promote environmental benefits and operational efficiency.  With VRTX treatment the facility is projected to save approximately 750,000 gallons of fresh water per year.  The building and related systems were designed to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) “Platinum” rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

VRTX was selected as the preferred treatment technology for the cooling tower and will assist the regional office in efforts to significantly reduce water consumption.  When compared with traditional chemical water treatment methods, VRTX can achieve the same results while also saving potable water, reducing waste and conserving energy.

The regional office will also use wastewater from the VRTX-treated cooling tower to supply its landscape irrigation system, further reducing the need for potable water in lawn and landscape maintenance.  The VRTX system was installed and commissioned July 2011.

ABOUT VRTX TECHNOLOGIES

VRTX Technologies specializes in environmentally-friendly chemical free treatment of water used in cooling towers and evaporative condensers.  The VRTX system relies on kinetic energy, hydrodynamic cavitation and chemical equilibrium to control scale, corrosion and bio-fouling without the hazards of chemical treatment.  VRTX also minimizes corrosion and microbiological growth, reduces system operating costs and conserves water and energy.

Hundreds of VRTX systems are installed throughout North America and internationally in Europe, South Korea, Vietnam and Australia.  VRTX treats evaporative cooling systems used in government buildings, hospitals, schools, chilled water plants, manufacturing facilities (including food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, paper, and plastics extrusion), cold storage warehouses, casinos and data centers.
