ASPE’S Strategic Blueprint Focuses on the Growth and Success of the Society and Its Members

Chicago, IL —The American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the Society’s 2012–2015 Strategic Blueprint.

For the past year the ASPE Board, with input from significant stakeholder groups, has been crafting this strategic plan to help guide the Society’s operations to ensure that the Society is focused on the appropriate objectives and has set a path for the future in line with its purpose and the needs of its membership. “We believe this strategic blueprint is vital to the growth and long-term sustainability of the Society,” says ASPE President William F. Hughes Jr., CPD, LEED AP, FASPE. “It provides a firm foundation on which future boards of directors can develop programs and policies to promote the profession and help our members succeed.”

The ASPE Board of Directors began developing this strategic blueprint in January 2011, and during the process drafts were shared with ASPE Chapter leaders and members, many of whom provided input. “We are very appreciative of those who took the time to submit comments,” says ASPE Executive Director/CEO Jim Kendzel, MPH, CAE. “The key stakeholder that our Society serves is our members, so it is critical that our plan for the future is based on input from them.”

A common theme among the objectives is a focus on enhancing the plumbing engineering profession, particularly by providing opportunities for professional development and career growth for ASPE members. To do so, the document contains seven core goals:
1.   Society culture built on trust and open dialogue among all stakeholders
2.   Build positive relationships within the plumbing community
3.   Enhance membership value, resulting in Society growth and long-term sustainability
4.   Provide professional growth opportunities for the plumbing engineer/designer community
5.   Produce technical publications addressing the current and future needs of the industry
6.   Promote uniformity in plumbing codes and the use of sound engineering practices within the codes
7.   Enhance recognition of the plumbing engineering/design profession

Each core goal contains several objectives to help the ASPE staff and leaders plan programs to achieve those goals. The Board of Directors encourages ASPE members to review the goals and objectives and to offer input or ideas on an ongoing basis.

“This is a living document—a blueprint for the future of ASPE,” says Hughes. “The Board looks forward to receiving member input to ensure the continued success of the Society.”
